Cvii. on the Physiological Action

چکیده
THE biochemical action of i-ascorbic acid has hitherto been studied principally on the scorbutic guinea-pig. Only recently Harris et al. [1933] investigated the excretion of ascorbic acid in the human subject and found that with a normal intake of vitamin C about 30 mg. of ascorbic acid can be determined by dichlorophenolindophenol titration in the daily output of urine. The excretion is temporarily increased when large doses of vitamin C (150 ml. lemon juice corresponding to about 150 mg. of ascorbic acid are given). It was also found by van Eekelen et al. [1933] that with a normal diet about 25 mg. of ascorbic acid are excreted daily in the urine. In order to determine if, as in the case of vitamins A and D, symptoms of hypervitaminosis occur after the administration of large quantities of ascorbic acid, the present author has investigated the tolerance of various laboratory animals (cold and warm blooded). The vitamin was administered per os, subcutaneously, intraperitoneally and intravenously, using an aqueous solution of ascorbic acid which was neutralised with sodium hydroxide shortly before use. In the following table the maximum single doses given to the various animals are summarised. Dosage in g./kg.

Potential monitoring of crop production using a satellite-based Climate-Variability Impact Index
The capabilities of the MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) present some exciting possibilities for improved and timely monitoring of crop production. A quantitative index is introduced in this paper to study the relationship between remotely sensed leaf area index (LAI) and crop production. The Climate-Variability Impact Index (CVII), defined as the monthly contribution to an...
متن کاملNegative Regulation of Violacein Biosynthesis in Chromobacterium violaceum
In Chromobacteium violaceum, the purple pigment violacein is under positive regulation by the N-acylhomoserine lactone CviI/R quorum sensing system and negative regulation by an uncharacterized putative repressor. In this study we report that the biosynthesis of violacein is negatively controlled by a novel repressor protein, VioS. The violacein operon is regulated negatively by VioS and positi...

Background: The relationship between anthropometrical and physiological parameters with jumping and throwing distance is important. We aimed to investigate the relationship between anthropometrical and physiological parameters with jumping and throwing distance of young elite female jumpers and throwers <spa...
متن کاملThe Effect of Physiological Load during Matches on the Quality of Refereeing in Handball Referees
Background. Referees are an integral part of every handball match which is considered a high-intensity activity and they need to follow the action as close as possible to avoid mistakes in their decisions. Objectives. This research aimed to determine the physiological loads of referees during handball matches and whether a higher physiological load during the match has a significant effect on ...
متن کاملGenetic Analysis of Response to Water Deficit Stress Based on Physiological Traits in Wheat
Dehydration is the most important limiting factor in agricultural production in arid and semi-arid regions, and water shortages (especially at the reproductive stages) due to lack of precipitation and unequal distribution are inappropriate for limiting the yield. In this research, cross between the Gasspard cultivar (dehydrated susceptible parent) and DN11 line (resistant parent) was performed....
